QA/QC (Quality Management Systems)
Applicable to Large Construction Projects |
 |
Quality Assurance
(QA) is defined as a procedure or set of interrelating procedures intended to ensure that a product or service meets specified requirements.
These requirements are contained in codes and standards project specifications and customers contract, and will relate to the following , document control, purchasing, design change, and so on.
For contract purposes these documents are called (Project deliverables).
If a company is ISO 9001 certified that means the Company already has a completed quality management system with a full set of QA Procedures.
What is important and what customers expect on large construction projects is the submittal of the supplier QA Procedures that incorporate the specific requirements of the contract (project specific) for their review and approval prior to the start of the work.
This ensures that the supplier/contractor fully implement what the customer wants and the specific requirements of the contact are understood and implemented by the supplier/contractor.
Quality control
(QC) is a procedure or set of procedures intended to ensure that a manufactured product or construction activities comply to specified criteria and meets the requirements of the customer specifications and contract.
For contract purposes these documents are called (Project deliverables).
In order to implement an effective QC program a company/supplier must first decide which specific standards the product or service must meet.
The extent of QC actions must be determined(for example, the percentage of units to be tested from each lot) or a set of interrelating construction activities, civil, mechanical, painting, and so on.
Inspection data must be collected during the work (Key Quality Indicators) so that risk can be evaluated and positive or negative trends can be identified and reported for quality improvement.
Quality improvement can be documented by corrective actions to ensure that failures are identified and do not get repeated.
It is normal prior to the commencement of the work for a construction project specific (Inspection and Test Plan) be produced to monitor /verify construction activities.
